4:50pm Thursday 2nd February 2012

A FORMER Miss Wales contestant is hoping the power of positive thinking will help her win a new contest – and enable her to aid an eating disorder charity.
24-year-old Yasmine Baig, who was second runner-up in Miss Wales 2007, is set to stun at the Miss Heart of Wales contest this Saturday, after successfully overcoming health problems of her own.
And she is raising funds for Beat – a charity providing helplines, online support and a network of UK-wide self-help groups to assist adults and young people in the UK beat their eating disorders.
Nutritional therapist and life coach Yasmine, of Wenvoe, is also driven by a desire to inspire others, after putting aside dreams of becoming an actress following a thyroid problem diagnosis which led her on a journey of help and self-healing.
Yasmine said: "I was introduced to a book called The Secret which I instantly connected with.
"I wasn't prepared to go on medication for the rest of my life, and after being inspired by this book I was determined to find the power and wisdom to heal myself.
"A friend then introduced me to Nichiren Buddhism which transformed my life. It gave me the courage and wisdom not only to heal myself but those around me too.
"I realised I wanted to help others as much as I could so I studied to become a nutritional therapist and life coach.
"I'm a great believer in having a positive mental attitude and a healthy mind, body and spirit," she added.
"I am now determined to help other people become the best person they can be. I want to share my knowledge and make a difference in people's lives."
Yasmine will be drawing a raffle, in aid of Beat, at the Vale Hotel tomorrow (February 3), ahead of the competition on Saturday.
