Stalemate on the pitch - but Barry Town need your help off it...

8:30am Thursday 26th January 2012

Barry Town 0 TON PENTRE 0

THE positives from this game for The Dragons were a 6th successive match without a defeat and another clean sheet for the defence.

Apart from a few scorned chances from Ton Pentre in time added on, neither team looked like scoring in a game dominated by the midfielders and defenders on both sides.

The game started with The Dragons dominating possession and Ton resorting to niggling fouls to upset the Town rhythm, a ploy which succeeded with passes starting to go astray and the visitors gradually getting into the game.

Lewis Cosslett forced the Ton keeper into a save early on but The Dragons should have taken the lead on 6 minutes when Christian Doidge turned in the box and shot, but the ball hit the inside of the post and rebounded straight to the keeper.

The first half was littered with Dragons free kicks, but they were unable to take advantage of them. Ton created a few chances but either shot wide or straight at Dan Bradley in the Barry Town goal.

The second half showed no improvement as both teams struggled to control the ball on a heavy, bumpy pitch which had seen another game played on it less than 24 hours earlier.

Chances were few and far between with only a Mike Hartley shot troubling the Ton keeper.

The game was petering out for the inevitable 0-0 draw when, with the final whistle minutes away, Ton created three great chances.

The first was tipped over the bar by Bradley; the second, a header in front of an open goal, was put wide when it looked easier to score; and then in the dying seconds a Ton forward was put through and with only Bradley standing in his way, proceeded to blast it wide.

The game, which was excellently officiated, came to an end with both teams picking up a point. Neither team really deserved to win it but The Dragons will play better than this and lose, so will take the positives from the game.

Barry Town needs your help...

BARRY Town Supporters Committee took on the responsibility of funding the team throughout the present season, after the current owner withdrew funding for the First Team in May 2011.

As previously reported in the Barry & District News, it is now up to the Committee and supporters alike to ensure that the money required to get through the season is raised.

The BTSC also need the backing of local businesses, who can help by taking one of the packages available such as Vice President Club membership, programme advert, advertising board, match or player sponsorship.

A spokesman said: "The remainder of the season is going to be a tough but there is an amazing optimism amongst the supporters at the moment, that slowly but surely they are getting their club back."

Manager Gavin Chesterfield, along with his assistants Damon Searle and Mike Cosslett, have assembled a strong squad which is competing well in Welsh League Division One after a slow start.

The Committee promised that there would be a return to a good standard of matchday programme – a promise which they have fulfilled. The programme is much envied by other clubs and is put together and printed by supporters.

All funds raised are paid into the Supporters Committee bank account, which is completely independent of the club and its owner.

If you or your business are interested in any of the sponsorship packages, contact the Supporters Committee at btsc2011@hotmail.co.uk or Club Secretary David Cole at davidjcole1948@yahoo.co.uk Prices range from £25 to £300.

* The Supporters Committee Awards Night will be on Friday, May 18 at The Angel Hotel, Cardiff. John Hartson, the former Arsenal, Celtic and Wales forward, has been booked as the guest speaker. Tickets are £40 per person and can be obtained by contacting the above email addresses.

All profit made on the evening will be used to sustain the funding of Barry Town as it approaches its Centenary season.
