THERE was a treat for the Cardiff City mad pupils at one Barry primary school last week – when guests from the Bluebirds arrived to congratulate the Year 6 five-a-side team!
Cardiff City Community Foundation sports participation officer Dean Pymble and Bluebirds mascot Zoe Lou called in at Romilly Primary on Wednesday (February 8), to present certificates to the team, whose members are in with a shot of playing at Wembley!
The youngsters will represent the Championship club in the Champ South division of the npower Football League Kids Cup next month (March 12), where they will take on teams representing the likes of West Ham, Bristol City, Ipswich, Millwall and Portsmouth.
Teams who make it through the national finals will play at Wembley Stadium ahead of the Championship Play Off Final in May.
The Romilly youngsters earned their place after beating schools from all over South Wales at events at the House of Sport and Futsal in November, winning the right to represent Cardiff City in the regional finals.
Dean said he hoped the lads would emulate Cardiff City's success in reaching Wembley.
"The boys have done really well," he added.
"It was some of the best football we have seen for some time.
"They were brilliant, not just with their skills, but with their attitude."
